Q24: How will you prevent farmer-herder disputes from becoming ethnic or religious conflicts, and what role should federal, state and community authorities play in resolving them? Answer: My policy enforces strict rule of law by treating violent crimes as criminal acts regardless of ethnicity, assigning intelligence to federal agencies, operational policing to states, and early- warning dispute resolution to community authorities. Q25: Kidnapping, terrorism and armed attacks have affected communities in places such as Zamfara, Borno and other parts of Nigeria for years. What will you do differently to make these communities safe? Answer: I am advocating for constitutional restructuring to allow State and Local Community Policing, expanding security force recruitment, deploying advanced satellite/drone surveillance, and conducting intelligence-driven counter-insurgency operations.

I am mindful of the arguments that have been raised by opponents of State Police that it can be subject to abuse by the state governors and their officials. This can also be said of the Federal Police. What is important is to insert into the instrument of creation of the State Police, watertight measures that will check abuses. However, not recognising the need of the State Police to address the peculiar challenges of different states in the country is a disservice to the security needs of the people. Today, I charged the youths, not to give up on Nigeria's democracy notwithstanding the deliberate efforts of the ruling party to constrict the democratic space. My counsel to the youths was in response to a group of PDP Grassroots Supporters, FCT, led by Amb. Akin Akinleye, which paid me a visit on Wednesday in Abuja. The group visited to indicate its willingness to join forces with the new coalition. I admonished them that although elections keep being stolen and do not reflect the choice of the people, citizens should continue to come out to cast their votes during elections. I reminded them that even though we had over 90 million registered voters, not up to 30 million came out to vote in the 2023 elections. It is imperative that they show up to vote because it is about their future. Earlier, I had received the Sardaunan Matasa Forum (Kano Chapter), led by Alhaji Babangida Abubakar Sani.

This afternoon, I received a delegation of ADC stakeholders from Taraba State. I am pleased to hear that they are committed to grassroots mobilisation and membership registration to build formidable structures of the party across all levels in the state. Against all efforts by the current Tinubu-led APC government to force one party on citizens, building a credible opposition to give our people a reliable option and freedom of choice cannot be taken lightly. I encourage that special attention be given to youths and women. They are the future. -AA

This afternoon, I met with a group of young politicians from Katsina State. They are organised under the forum of former councilors, and led by its Chairman, Hon Aminu Yunusa Rimaye. I admire their passion for the betterment of our country. I told them about the values of resilience and peserverance. I encouraged them not to give up on our beloved country notwithstanding the challenges it may be going through. I assured them that it is only a passing phase, and that with the right leadership and motivation we shall prevail. Many compariots including my mentor, Tafida Shehu Musa Yar'adua, from Katsina, paid the supreme price for this democracy we have today. We cannot afford to give up until we achieve the Nigeria of our dream. -AA
