What will you do to improve police welfare and working conditions, and will you create a separate police pension scheme?
Thank you for raising this, because it matters to every officer who puts on that uniform each day. My plan is to reform the police into a true public service, moving away from a colonial-style, regime-protection force toward one focused on you, the citizen. Part of that means demilitarizing the police: gradually ending barracks as the default system of accommodation, and decentralizing deployment so mid- and lower-level officers can serve closer to their states of residence.
On the specific question of removing police from the general pension system and creating a separate scheme like the military's, I have not set out that position. What I have said is that outstanding entitlements, wherever they are owed, including to pensioners, should be paid and what remains unpaid should be published openly.
