Q14: Electricity is unreliable and families and businesses spend a large part of their income on generators. How will you make power more reliable and affordable? Answer: My policy is to unbundle state power assets, concession national grid transmission to private investors, get gas supply guarantees for power plants, and encourage captive power generation for industrial zones.

Q15: Many rural communities are far from the national grid. What role will solar, mini-grids and other alternative energy sources play in providing them with electricity? Answer: I would make solar mini-grids that will serve as the primary power source for off-grid communities, supported by zero import tariffs on solar components and capital subsidies for renewable energy providers. Q16: Nigeria has invested in many power projects but electricity remains unreliable. What will you do differently, and how will you ensure abandoned or delayed electricity projects are completed? Answer: My administration will audit all stalled power projects, convert viable uncompleted assets into public-private concessions, and enforce strict anti-corruption oversight on all energy contracts. Q17: Bad rural roads prevent people from reaching farms, markets, schools and hospitals, especially during the rainy season. How will you improve rural roads and connectivity? Answer: I plan to expand the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) using matching federal-state funds to pave critical farm-to-market feeder roads.

The planned exit of GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) from Nigeria after more than five decades of doing business in Nigeria underscores how horrific the environment has become for both local and foreign businesses. Sadly, many international firms have, in recent times, sold their assets and bid farewell to Nigeria after several years of operating in our country. These exits have led to further loss of jobs in an environment that is already bleeding jobs. We need to do a lot more not only to encourage investors to make Nigeria their preferred destination but also to encourage companies already operating in our land not to "japa." To this end, we must revamp our infrastructure, endeavour to enthrone a sustainable regime of energy security and retool our fiscal and monetary policy. -AA The planned exit of GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) from Nigeria after more than five decades of doing business in Nigeria underscores how horrific the environment has become for both local and foreign businesses. · Open up the entire power sector from generation to transmission for private investments. Going forward, the goal of every developing country must be to achieve universal access to electricity, ensuring that every citizen benefits from reliable power for daily needs, education, healthcare, and economic activities. This would be in line with the SDG 7 (Sustainable Development Goal 7), which aims to ensure affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all. In this wise: · Nigeria must double efforts to support the likes of Prof Nnaji. Nigerian governments both federal and state must provide the Business environment that will make the private enterprises more competitive by (1) reducing their costs of set-up and operations (2) improving their margins and (3) making government policies more predictable · In particular, the authorities must create an environment that will enable distribution companies to recover full costs for power supplied to their consumers with firm commitment to a metering program for all customers. The scourge of electricity theft must be dealt with through a viable partnership between investors in the distribution companies and the government with legislative support for prompt action against electricity theft.

The electricity power crisis in Nigeria continues to be a matter of immense concern. In particular reference is the situations in both the Southeast and the entire states of the Northwest and Northeast that have been in complete blackouts in the past three weeks. Every government department responsible for addressing the problem must be quick in its intervention and restore electricity back to the distressed geopolitical zones. Meanwhile, I still believe that my solution, as encapsulated in my Policy Document, ‘My Covenant with Nigerians’, remains the most proactive plan to lead our country out of perennial darkness. There is an urgent need to remove the entire electricity value chain from the exclusive list and grant states the power to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity for themselves. I firmly believe that an industrial dispute with the Federal Government in the nation's capital should not affect industrial activities in any of the states or cities of the country.

Indeed, if Taraba, aspires to realise its potential and grow its economy sustainably, it must endeavour to leverage private sector resources including finance, skills and technology. No Nigerian State has the necessary fiscal and financial space to independently drive growth and achieve sustainable development. Building strategic partnerships between the State, private investors, local businesses and communities is critical in addressing resources gaps and unlocking the potential of the State to facilitate investments. As a private businessman, I recognize that investments, foreign and domestic, drive economic growth and development. Here are a few key benefits: First, private investments will help bridge the resource gaps through additional external resource flows and increased internally generated revenues. Second, private investments will assist the State in leveraging and maximizing the economic potential of its agricultural, industrial, and solid minerals sectors. This initiative aims to establish a foundation for a diversified economy and ensure inclusive growth.

As someone from Adamawa, this incident feels deeply personal. My heart goes out to the families who lost loved ones, to those who were injured, and to the entire community forced to seek refuge in the bushes for safety. The government must move beyond mere rhetorics and propaganda and take decisive, sustained action to protect lives and property. Nigerians deserve more than promises; they deserve peace, security, and the freedom to live in any place of their choice without fear. May Almighty Allah grant eternal rest to the departed, healing to the injured, and comfort to all who mourn. -AA

Poverty is the greatest enemy that humanity has ever known. Wherever it takes root, whether in the life of an individual or across a society, it breeds other troubles like disease, ignorance, insecurity, and hopelessness. The declaration of this day as the International Day for Poverty Eradication is a timely reminder and a call to action. It urges governments, civil society, and every stakeholder to join hands in the fight against poverty in all its forms. In Nigeria, we have sadly earned the label of being among the nations hardest hit by poverty. That is why my advocacy for deliberate, people-centred solutions to end poverty remains strong and consistent. At both government and community levels, we must take the fight against poverty to every home, every community, and every school so that the ordinary Nigerian becomes part of the solution. As a wise Nigerian proverb says, “When the poor man is hungry, peace sleeps outside.” When poverty is defeated, the freedom and dignity of every man and woman will find true meaning. -AA

I have just read the communique released by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) under the leadership of His Grace Archbishop Daniel Okoh from the 2026 National Church Leaders Summit and I align with the concern and sympathies of the Church in Nigeria over the security of the lives of Nigerians. The demand for a comprehensive review of the nation’s security architecture, enhanced intelligence gathering, stronger inter-agency cooperation, improved operational effectiveness and greater accountability in the fight against terrorism, banditry and violent crime, are all fully in line with my position on the failure of the Tinubu-led Federal Government. It is encouraging for Nigerians to see Christians from various denominations and blocs unite in this spiritual wake-up call upon the political leadership to do better. From the Catholic Secretariat to the Christian Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (CPFN), the Organisation of African Instituted Churches to the TEKAN/ECWA and other Christian blocs in Nigeria, the declaration of a three-day period of national mourning should serve as moments of reflection for all political leaders, especially those in power with the responsibility to do better by Nigerians.

I dream of a Nigeria where no child is denied an education because of poverty. I dream of a Nigeria where every graduate can aspire to meaningful employment or build a successful business without being suffocated by poor policies. I dream of a Nigeria where electricity powers factories instead of generators, where businesses grow instead of merely struggling to survive, and where innovation is rewarded instead of frustrated. I dream of a Nigeria where our farmers cultivate their land without fear, where our communities are secure, and where no parent goes to bed wondering whether their child will return safely from school. I dream of a Nigeria where technology becomes a gateway to prosperity, where artificial intelligence, innovation and entrepreneurship create millions of new opportunities for our young people instead of forcing them to search for greener pastures abroad. I dream of a Nigeria where talent matters more than tribe.

Atiku said the relationship between energy costs and household welfare was precisely why his economic programme placed affordability at its centre. The World Bank has previously noted that higher petrol prices reduce household purchasing power directly and can also feed through into the prices of other goods and services, particularly transportation. “When fuel becomes expensive, transporting tomatoes from the farm becomes expensive. Taking rice to the market becomes expensive. Moving children to school becomes expensive. Running the neighbourhood grinding machine becomes expensive. Powering the small shop becomes expensive. “And eventually, the additional cost arrives at the dinner table. “That is why I refuse to accept an economic philosophy in which government simply watches prices rise and tells struggling citizens to endure.” Atiku reiterated that his proposed petroleum intervention is a production subsidy, rather than a return to subsidising imported petrol. His published proposal provides for targeted support tied to crude refined domestically, with the intervention capped, transparently budgeted and independently audited.

1.4. ENERGY The ADC will: 1. Diversify Nigeria's energy sources to strengthen national security. We will expand and decentralize energy generation to ensure more reliable, resilient, and locally responsive power systems. ● Empower individual states and groups of states to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity, making power supply more reliable and better aligned with local needs ● Create functional state electricity markets, allowing states to develop energy solutions based on their natural resources and economic priorities 2. Strengthen national fuel security and price stability. Ensure Nigeria is protected from supply disruptions and global price shocks by building buffers that stabilize the domestic energy market. 32

● Build and maintain national strategic oil reserves ● Deploy reserves to cushion the impact of global price shocks ● Reduce extreme fuel price volatility to protect households and businesses 3. Make electricity billing transparent, fair, and fully metered. ● End estimated billing nationwide within a defined transition period ● Implement a mass rollout of prepaid meters, targeting full coverage ● Prioritize metering for high-density and underserved communities ● Separate subsidies from tariffs, so government support goes directly to low-income households without distorting pricing ● Introduce transparent billing systems so consumers clearly understand what they are paying for ● Strengthen regulatory oversight to enforce fairness, accountability, and service quality across the electricity value chain ● Enforce strict penalties for non-compliance by distribution companies 1.5 ENVIRONMENT The ADC will:

4. Maintain states as the federating units while enabling regional cooperation. States will be encouraged to collaborate more closely to achieve scale and efficiency. ● Support voluntary cooperation among states to develop shared infrastructure ● Enable regional economic blocs to coordinate development strategies without undermining the federation ● Encourage joint investments and policy alignment across states facing similar economic or security challenges ● The ADC will: 1. Reduce the tax burden on small businesses that create jobs. We will reward businesses that employ Nigerians by lowering their tax burden and creating incentives for job creation and growth. 38

7. Promote responsible resource control with national balance. States will have greater control over natural resources within their territories, while contributing fairly to the federation through taxes and royalties. This will drive local development while preserving national cohesion. Details: ● Amend relevant laws, including the Petroleum Act, Nigerian Minerals and Mining Act, Land Use Act, and Petroleum Profit Tax Act, to enable states to manage and benefit more directly from their natural resources ● Require states to remit agreed taxes or royalties to the federal government to maintain national balance and shared responsibility ● Encourage states to develop resource-based industries, including processing and value addition, rather than relying solely on extraction ● Establish clear regulatory frameworks to ensure environmental protection, transparency, and accountability in resource management 8. Promote the inclusion of women, youths, and persons with disabilities in governance. We will ensure that vulnerable and underrepresented groups are meaningfully included in political appointments, decision-making processes, and elective offices, with clear policies and institutional support to make inclusion a reality, not just a promise.

Here is what I will move, and why it matters for you: I want to take key responsibilities off the Exclusive Legislative List and put them on the Concurrent and residual levels, so your state has greater control over sectors that affect your daily life. Specifically, I will transfer greater authority to states over policing, prisons, and railways. I will decentralize control over mines, minerals, oil fields, and natural gas, with clear national standards and safeguards in place. I will also let states manage things like business registration, drugs and narcotics control, and criminal identification systems. On power, I plan to move electricity distribution and generation off the exclusive federal list, so states and off-grid developers can connect and supply electricity directly to communities like yours.
