Will you restore the dignity of the police force and reform policing in Nigeria?
On police reform, I am committed to reforming and reorienting the police into a true public service, moving away from a colonial-style, regime-protection force toward a citizen-focused policing system. This means demilitarizing the police: gradually ending police barracks as the default system of accommodation, and decentralizing deployment so mid- to lower-level officers can serve closer to their states of residence. I also intend to establish clear controls around arrests and detention, with mandatory body cameras, cameras in interrogation rooms, and clear, enforceable guidelines on the use of force and firearms. Alongside this, I will work to decentralize policing and strengthen democratic security governance, building a multi-layered security system that reflects Nigeria's federal structure, improves response times, and ensures accountability at all levels.
