On security, the killings happening across Nigeria, in Kebbi, Zamfara, Plateau, Benue and Kano, among other places, are a reminder of how urgent this crisis has become. I have called on the Federal Government to urgently review and strengthen the security architecture, deploy adequate personnel across vulnerable communities, and intensify intelligence led operations. Our citizens deserve protection, dignity and peace, nothing less. I believe that with the right political leadership, our security forces have the capacity to take on the insecurity confronting this country, and it is urgent for citizens to unite and rescue Nigeria. When tragedies occur, including strikes that take the lives of innocent Nigerians, I have insisted this demands urgent review, accountability and decisive action to prevent a recurrence, because upholding the duty to protect every citizen is the ultimate essence of national security. I have also made clear that security forces must never turn on citizens exercising their right to peaceful protest, and that government and security agencies carry a paramount duty to keep people safe.

On local government financial autonomy, I align fully with the Supreme Court's ruling affirming fiscal autonomy to local government councils. It is a win for the people of Nigeria and a step in the right direction for national development. I believe local governments must be centres of development, and that fiscal autonomy should not stop at Federation Account revenues, it must also apply to the Internally Generated Revenue collected by local government authorities. Supreme Court judgments are final, not optional, and persistently refusing to enforce one is a direct breach of the Constitution. Withholding local government financial autonomy cripples communities, stalls development and deepens poverty at the grassroots, leaving roads broken, health centres abandoned and salaries unpaid. I will stand firmly for implementing this judgment in full, including direct allocation and local control of internally generated revenue.

On the debt burden, I have been clear that reckless borrowing threatens the future of Nigeria and generations yet unborn. Public debt has reached alarming levels, and I have opposed fresh borrowing pursued without regard for the consequences it places on citizens. I raised concerns early on about the downside risks of unleashing economic reforms without sequencing, without a clear plan for implementation, and without regard to their real and potential consequences. Implementing policies without proper planning and a clear destination is nothing other than trial and error economics, and that is not how I intend to manage Nigeria's finances. Restoring stability means borrowing must be guided by discipline and honest public accounting, not punishing interest rates and devaluation that erode the purchasing power of workers, traders, small business owners and pensioners.
