There's an urgent need for stricter monitoring and regulation of mining activities, particularly in areas dominated by artisanal operations. Nigeria must strengthen health, safety, and environmental standards while also ensuring that miners receive proper training, equipment, and support to reduce risks. In addition, there should be well-coordinated emergency response mechanisms with faster reaction times and adequate resources to save lives when disasters occur. I call on the federal government, the Zamfara State Government, agencies such as the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, and other stakeholders to collaborate urgently. The task at hand is to rescue those still trapped, provide immediate relief to victims and their families, and ensure that lessons are learnt to avert such tragedies. -AA

I am outraged by the barbaric attack in Gari Ya Waye community, Angwan Rukuba, Jos, which claimed the lives of scores of innocent Nigerians and left many others injured. That this heinous assault occurred on Sunday night, March 29, 2026, is yet another damning indictment of the near-total collapse of security in our country. What we are witnessing is not merely a security lapse, but a tragic descent into lawlessness where human lives are treated as expendable. Despite endless pronouncements and so-called marching orders, insecurity remains the grim, daily reality of ordinary Nigerians who continue to bear the brunt of a failing system. It is long past the time for outrage without action. The anger across the land must now compel urgent, decisive political will to confront and crush this menace. The continued slaughter of innocent citizens cannot become our new normal. My thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the victims in this dark and painful moment. -AA

Together, we can build a Nigeria that rewards enterprise instead of excuses. A Nigeria that inspires confidence instead of despair. A Nigeria that gives every citizen, not just the privileged few, a genuine opportunity to succeed. That is the Nigeria we must build. That is the Nigeria we must leave for generations yet unborn. CONCLUSION. My dear young Nigerians, The future of our country will not be decided only in Aso Rock. It will not be decided only in party headquarters. It will not be decided only in television studios or on social media. It will be decided in our communities. It will be decided in our schools. It will be decided in our workplaces. It will be decided in our polling units. And above all, it will be decided by ordinary Nigerians who refuse to surrender their future to fear, manipulation or despair. This retreat must not end with inspiring speeches, beautiful photographs and good intentions.

Innalillahi Wa'inna Ilaihir Raji'un. I am saddened by the passing of Hajia Aya Dada Yar’Adua, mother of my late mentor, Tafida Shehu Yar’Adua, late President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, among others. In the absence of my beloved mother, I adopted Hajiya Dada as a mother. Indeed, she was a mother of multitudes, as her home was always a place of refuge where she welcomed everyone with love. She will be sorely missed. On behalf of the Atiku Abubakar family and team, I express my profound condolences to the Yar’Adua family, friends and associates over the loss of this gem of inestimable value. My condolences also go to the government and people of Katsina State. May her sins be forgiven and that she be granted Aljannah Firdausi. Ameen. -AA

Raye embodies the spirit of a new generation of women who champion the ideals of popular participation and unwavering advocacy in the political sphere. I deeply admire her boldness and wisdom—her fearless resolve to speak truth to power, undeterred by the weight of opposition. She follows in the footsteps of formidable trailblazers like Gambo Sawaba, Funmilayo Ransom-Kuti, Margaret Ekpo and countless other women who have stood resolute in defense of the common good. Rather than being met with hostility, Raye deserves encouragement and support. She is a shining emblem of the Nigerian youth—a testament to the long-held promise that the leaders of tomorrow are already among us, ready to shape a better future. -AA

Yesterday, I joined my boss, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Head of State Yakubu Gowon, and Vice President Kashim Shettima, along with many other prominent Nigerian leaders, in paying tribute to Alhaji Ahmadu Adamu Muazu, former governor of Bauchi State and one-time National Chairman of the PDP, who turned 70. As Vice President of Nigeria between 1999 and 2007, I worked with Mu’azu and other governors who served within that period to lay the foundation for good governance and a private sector-led economic growth for Nigeria. I used the occasion to congratulate Mu'azu and wish him many more years in good health and vitality. -AA

He used to remind us that every generation must dream of a greater Nigeria, but it is not enough to dream, - we must build. The Nigeria of our dreams will not come to us through rhetoric or sentiment; it will come only through collective resolve, discipline, and honest work. Shehu’s dream was not naïve. It was a courageous dream. He dared to believe that justice could triumph over corruption. That service could replace selfishness. That hope, if it is guarded by discipline and faith, could outlive despair. And he challenged each one of us not to wait for perfect conditions, but to act, to lead, to build, and to believe. Our youths in particular, need to note that our nation stands again at a turning point. As we face unemployment, insecurity, disillusionment, and division, some have lost patience and many have also lost trust. Yet amidst this despair, Shehu’s message to you all is: Do not give up on your country. Do not give up on one another.

I dream of a Nigeria where no child is denied an education because of poverty. I dream of a Nigeria where every graduate can aspire to meaningful employment or build a successful business without being suffocated by poor policies. I dream of a Nigeria where electricity powers factories instead of generators, where businesses grow instead of merely struggling to survive, and where innovation is rewarded instead of frustrated. I dream of a Nigeria where our farmers cultivate their land without fear, where our communities are secure, and where no parent goes to bed wondering whether their child will return safely from school. I dream of a Nigeria where technology becomes a gateway to prosperity, where artificial intelligence, innovation and entrepreneurship create millions of new opportunities for our young people instead of forcing them to search for greener pastures abroad. I dream of a Nigeria where talent matters more than tribe.

Where competence triumphs over connections. Where justice triumphs over injustice. Where hope triumphs over despair. Where every child can dream without fear. Where every young person can succeed through hard work. Where every citizen can once again believe that government exists to serve the people. The task before us is great. But the Nigerian spirit is greater. The road ahead may not be easy. But no great nation was ever built by people who surrendered to despair. My dear young Nigerians, the future is not something we inherit. The future is something we build. Let history record that when Nigeria called, your generation answered. Let history remember that when democracy was tested, your generation defended it. Let history remember that when hope seemed to fade, your generation restored it. And let history remember that together, we rebuilt the promise of Nigeria. Nigeria does not need another miracle.
