Ask Atiku Abubakar — Official Citizen Engagement Platform

What plan do you have for Baro port in Niger State?

I don't have a specific plan laid out for Baro Port itself. What I can tell you is the bigger picture I will work from. I want to build an integrated national infrastructure system that links our roads, rail, ports, and waterways together, so they work as one coordinated network that supports trade, agriculture, industry and exports, instead of each piece standing alone and underused. Ports like Baro would fall within that national network.

To get this done, I will bring in private investors to finance development with their own capital, while government provides targeted incentives, including tax concessions where appropriate. I will also partner with capable private firms to operate ports and waterways, and encourage Nigerian participation in shipping and logistics. This way, government moves from being the one running everything to being an enabler and regulator, so private companies can take on a bigger role in building and running this kind of infrastructure.

I will also work with state governments to develop existing transportation infrastructure, since that partnership is part of how I intend to get real results on the ground.

Where this comes from
