I will require states to adopt tenancy laws that reflect economic realities, protect tenants, and support housing investment. This means wage-reflective tenancy laws that balance affordability for tenants with incentives for landlords, rules against excessive upfront rent demands and arbitrary charges, clear rules for rent increases and eviction processes, and fast, accessible dispute resolution systems for landlord-tenant conflicts. I am determined to see public housing schemes used as a tool to stabilize rent and expand access to decent accommodation.
