Ask Atiku Abubakar — Official Citizen Engagement Platform

What will you do about public officials using immunity to escape accountability?

I will reform executive immunity to protect governance, not corruption. Public officials will be able to carry out their duties without unnecessary distraction, but no one will be shielded from wrongdoing. I will amend the laws to limit immunity strictly to official duties, excluding offences like embezzlement, contract fraud, and illicit enrichment. Investigations will continue while officials are in office, statutes of limitation will be removed for corruption cases involving public office holders, and special fast-track courts will handle serious cases quickly, without delay or political interference.
