Ask Atiku Abubakar — Official Citizen Engagement Platform

What do you think needs to change about how Nigeria treats people in power versus everyone else?

I believe we must change the Nigeria where there is one standard for those in power and another standard for everyone else. That is part of what we must build differently: a Nigeria that works for everyone, not just a few. I see the people around us, our neighbours and partners, as part of this same assignment of building that kind of country.

Where this comes from

That is part of the Nigeria we must change—a Nigeria where there is one standard for those in power and another for everyone else. Now, I want everyone in this hall to do something else for me. Look to your left. Now look to your right. Remember the faces you have just seen, because the people sitting beside you are not strangers. They are your partners in one of the most important assignments before our generation: building a Nigeria that works for everyone. I stand before you today not simply as a presidential candidate asking for your support. I stand before you as a Nigerian who believes that our young people have waited long enough. For decades, young Nigerians have been told to be patient, to wait their turn, and to prepare themselves because they are the leaders of tomorrow. But tomorrow has been promised to Nigerian youths for too long. Your time is not tomorrow. Your time is now.
