Ask Atiku Abubakar — Official Citizen Engagement Platform

What are the biggest challenges holding back young Nigerians today?

Many young Nigerians are struggling against unreliable electricity, poor infrastructure, insecurity, unemployment and limited access to capital. Graduates are searching endlessly for jobs, small businesses are struggling with operating costs, and families are cutting back on basic necessities. The dream of owning a home, building a business and raising a family in reasonable comfort is moving further away for millions. I believe that when government actually works, what you can achieve despite these struggles shows just how much more is possible.

Think about what that means. If Nigerian youths can achieve so much while struggling against unreliable electricity, poor infrastructure, insecurity, unemployment and limited access to capital, imagine what you can accomplish when government actually works. That is the possibility that excites me. But we must also be clear about the present. The hardship confronting young Nigerians today did not fall from the sky. Governments make choices, policies have consequences, and leadership must accept responsibility for those consequences. Under the current APC administration, millions of young Nigerians are confronting an economy in which the cost of simply surviving has become a daily battle. Graduates are searching endlessly for jobs, small businesses are struggling with operating costs, families are cutting back on basic necessities, and the dream of owning a home, building a business and raising a family in reasonable comfort is moving further away from millions of people.
