Ask Atiku Abubakar — Official Citizen Engagement Platform

Would you rebuild destroyed schools and clinics before or after people return?

Before organized return begins, I will make sure security forces clear and secure the affected areas, setting up permanent bases and civil protection posts first. Once that safety is in place and families start resettling, I am committed to immediate restoration of basic health centers and schools, alongside rebuilding grants, starter seeds and tools, and micro-loans to help you restart your life. This is how we will make sure you are not just returning home, but returning to a community that can support you.

Q26: We have lived in IDP camps for years and want to return home. How will you make our communities safe enough for us to return and rebuild our homes and lives? Answer: Security forces will clear and secure affected regions, establishing permanent Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) and civil protection posts before organized civilian resettlement begins. Q27: Displaced families have lost farms, livelihoods and children's education. What support will you provide to help them restart their lives? Answer: Returning families will receive rebuilding grants, basic household assets, starter seeds and tools, micro-loans, and immediate restoration of basic health centers and schools. Q28: How will you ensure that money, food and assistance intended for IDPs actually reach displaced people rather than being diverted?

Every life is precious, and every loss, especially for the affected people, is irreplaceable. That's why we must take preemptive actions to stem losses from avoidable situations. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who may have lost their loved ones from the tragic collapse of a building on Lagos Street in Abuja following last night's downpour. May their families be comforted, and their souls rest in peace. In the last couple of days, we've witnessed torrential downpours. This is yet another indication of global warming that has thrown up changes in our weather patterns. That's why we need to step up the activities of the development control and inspectorate departments of the federal capital and the states. This is to ensure that the construction of houses meets the integrity test. -AA https://punchng.com/two-feared-killed-others-trapped-as-abuja-high-rise-building-collapses/?amp

I am elated at the news of the release of the 287 abducted school children in Kaduna after 16 days in captivity. I commend all those who worked tirelessly to make their release a reality. As we celebrate with their families and friends, let's be mindful that, like stage four cancer, this state of insecurity that has befallen our nation is metastasising and needs proactive measures to stem it. I can only imagine the trauma that these vulnerable children have suffered. It is recommended that the children receive psychotherapic care by professionals. We also do not need to wait for the next incident before putting mechanisms in place to forestall it. To this end, I recommend the strengthening of the Safe School Initiative that prioritises the protection of schools, especially in the areas that are most vulnerable to mass kidnap of school children. But above all, there should be an overhaul of the security architecture to meet the demands of the threats facing us. -AA

Yesterday, my team concluded our annual intervention programme tagged Education Day, designed to provide annual outreach in support to public schools around Adamawa State. This year’s edition of the programme focused on schools in the Ganye area of the state. It is a day set aside to support public education through the provision of scholarships and educational materials to public schools and students. This year, the team visited ALL the 18 public schools in Ganye to distribute notebooks, pencils, biros, and teaching and learning materials to public schools. The programme also shortlisted 10 brilliant students for scholarship awards for the next phase of their education. -AA
