Q44: Oil spills and pollution have destroyed farms, fishing and livelihoods in Niger Delta communities. How will you clean up affected areas, compensate communities and hold responsible oil companies accountable? Answer: My administration will accelerate the Ogoni cleanup, strictly enforce environmental restoration across all oil-producing areas, and apply strict "polluter pays" legal liabilities to non- compliant oil majors. Q45: Flooding and erosion are destroying farms, roads and homes in many communities. What is your national plan for managing these environmental and climate-related risks? Answer: My plan executes a National Flood and Erosion Management Plan that dredges the River Niger and River Benue, manages dam releases systematically, and directs the Ecological Fund straight to vulnerable communities. Q46: Illegal mining is polluting rivers and destroying farmland.

The judgment of the Supreme Court earlier today affirming fiscal autonomy to local government councils in the country is a win for the people of Nigeria.
The court’s ruling is a step in the right direction and a major corrective action in greasing the wheels of national development across the country.
The decision by the Federal Government to consolidate disbursements of local councils’ revenues into the state government accounts was a decision that was borne out of politics of hasty compromise.
I align with the decision of the Supreme Court that the structure of the Nigerian government is portioned in three layers, and of these, the local governments should be centres of development.
I also share the belief that fiscal autonomy to the local governments should not be limited to revenues from the Federation Accounts, but indeed, should apply to Internally Generated Revenue from the respective local government authorities.

If federal infrastructure in Rivers has been compromised, the President bears full responsibility. Punishing the people of Rivers State just to serve the political gamesmanship between the governor and @officialABAT’s enablers in the federal government is nothing less than an assault on democracy and must be condemned in the strongest terms. -AA

The local government election conducted by the occupation government in Rivers State is an awful absurdity and a travesty to the very notion of elective democracy.
By the shameful and shambolic manner in which the occupation government went ahead to conduct local government elections in RiversState, it is clear that the ruling APC party is not leaving anyone in doubt that it is prepared to throw caution to the wind in order to achieve an inordinate political advantage.
It therefore becomes necessary to call the attention of well-meaning Nigerians. international community and all friends and partners of Nigeria to the dangerous curve that the President Bola Tinubu regime is taking our dear country.
I will also call on all opposition parties in Rivers State to reject the local government election on the premise that the occupation government that conducted the exercise is extraneous to our laws, with absolutely no legitimacy to undertake such a crucial and sensitive assignment.

“These young people were failed three times: first by an economy that offered them no future; second by a state that criminalised their struggle for survival; and finally by a government that failed to protect them after taking away their freedom.
“Illegal mining is robbing Nigeria of its resources, destroying communities and threatening national security. It must be confronted firmly. But fighting illegal mining is not a licence for state agents to arrest citizens alive and return their bodies to their families.
“An allegation is not a death sentence. An arrest warrant is not a warrant to kill. Government custody must never become a gateway to the mortuary.
“Every official involved in the arrest, transportation and detention of these Nigerians must be identified, suspended and subjected to an independent criminal investigation. The inquiry must establish the entire chain of command: who authorised the operation, who ordered the arrests, how many people were confined in the cell and who was responsible for their welfare.
