Honours
In 1982, at the unusually young age of 36, Atiku was appointed to the enviable position of Turaki Adamawa, a position of honour, and a position of high responsibility. Since then accolades have been bestowed on him from various monarchs across the six geo-political zones of the country. He holds the following titles:
• Waziri of Adamawa (Adamawa Emirate)
• Zege Mule U Tiv (Tiv Nation, Benue State), "Great Shelter of the Tiv Nation", conferred on 27 May 2001
• Sardauna of Ganye (Adamawa State)
• Maiyedero of Lagos
• Ekwueme of Anambra
• Atayese of Ijeshaland
• Zanna Zantaelma of Borno
• Zanna Kawaskima of Yobe
• Shettima of Biu (Borno State)
• Suka of Ogoniland
• Unuamani of Adamawa
• Baagbile of Oke Ona Egba, Egbaland
• Omekaojuora of Igbuzo
• Otun Balogun of Mopaland
• Nwanne Di na Mba of Ngor-Okpala (Imo State)
• Enyioha Ndigbo
In June 2017, he was elevated Waziri Adamawa, second in command only to the Lamido of Adamawa; the Waziri is one of the highest offices of the Adamawa Emirate and a senior kingmaker. On becoming Waziri he relinquished the title of Turaki Adamawa, which passed to his son, Aliyu.
Rotary International and the National Peace Corps Association of the United States have recognised the former Vice President for matching his passion with his purse. In 2011, the National Peace Corps Association made him the first recipient of its Harris Wofford Global Citizen Award, for his contribution to democracy and to higher education in Africa. "No private business man in Africa has worked harder for democracy or contributed more to higher education than Atiku Abubakar," his citation read. It is important for political leaders across the country, especially Lagos State, to desist from actions that promote election violence, such that can compromise peace, unity and democracy in our country.
I am concerned about how lackeys of political leaders in Lagos State have unabatedly made ethnic slurs aimed at intimidating voters in the state in tomorrow's election.
I have watched with profound disdain a certain video in circulation where some persons known to be associates of the leaders of the ruling party in Lagos State are issuing threats against other ethnic groups in the build up to the Governorship and State House of Assembly election
in the state tomorrow.
I condemn this uncivilised behaviour and also condemn the criminal silence of the security agencies and the political leadership in Lagos State and Abuja on this development.
Every democracy is as virile as the culture of the electoral system that governs it. The democracy that we fought for and operate in Nigeria thrives on the principle of free and equal participation.

Yesterday, my team concluded our annual intervention programme tagged Education Day, designed to provide annual outreach in support to public schools around Adamawa State.
This year’s edition of the programme focused on schools in the Ganye area of the state.
It is a day set aside to support public education through the provision of scholarships and educational materials to public schools and students.
This year, the team visited ALL the 18 public schools in Ganye to distribute notebooks, pencils, biros, and teaching and learning materials to public schools.
The programme also shortlisted 10 brilliant students for scholarship awards for the next phase of their education. -AA

I am devasted by the news of the tragic attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, which claimed the life of the Vice-Principal and led to the abduction of innocent students.
This is yet another reminder of the worsening insecurity in our nation.
I equally condemn the killing of an APC chieftain Umar Moriki and the mass abductions in Tsafe LGA of Zamfara, where entire families including women and children were taken by bandits. These acts of barbarity have no place in a civilized society.
Similar tragedies continue to unfold in Plateau, Benue, and other states, where communities are being torn apart by violence. In Shanono LGA of Kano, residents are fleeing their homes in fear, highlighting a national security challenge that has reached intolerable levels.
Nigeria cannot continue on this path. I call on the Federal Government to urgently review and strengthen its security architecture, deploy adequate personnel across vulnerable communities, and intensify intelligence-led operations. Our citizens deserve protection, dignity, and peace, nothing less. -AA

An ADC government under my leadership will take decisive action to address insecurity and protect lives and property in the country. We shall strengthen the armed forces, the police and other security agencies with massive new recruitment, provision of modern and adequate equipment, training, improved welfare and effective leadership. We shall also ensure accountability and proper coordination and intelligence sharing among all our security agencies.
It is obvious to us in the ADC that we can only secure our country long-term if we educate our young people and create an economy in which they and their families can thrive and help to change Nigeria and the world for the better.
Education
Under the watch of this APC government over 20 million of our school-age children are not in school. This cannot be tolerated in the modern world where education is the surest path to descent employment, wealth creation, national development and enlightened citizenry. We will, therefore, implement free and compulsory education at the primary and secondary levels and invest in leadership, entrepreneurial, technological and innovation skills amongst our teeming youth.
