What will you do about the exchange rate and its effect on the economy?
Thank you for standing with me, and for this question, because I know what the exchange rate does to your pocket, your market, your everything.
A fixed exchange rate is not the answer, it would run against an open, private sector friendly economy, and we lack the reserves to defend it at all times. A free float, done the way it was, is not the answer either, it is what sent the Naira into a free fall and deepened your hardship. What I would encourage is a managed floating system: the Naira can move day to day, but the Central Bank steps in, judiciously and responsibly, to control and stabilise its value and curb speculation, while we eliminate the multiple exchange rate windows that only enrich middlemen and rent-seekers. This is how we make the naira in your pocket worth more again.
