ojú ìwé 3 Introduction Atiku Abubakar: Answers to questions from the public 2026-10-02 ›
What will you do to create opportunities that encourage young Nigerians to stay and those in the diaspora to return? Answer: To curb brain drain, I will prioritize macroeconomic stabilization, business-friendly regulatory reforms, tax incentives for returnee-led businesses, and dedicated diaspora investment channels, and comprehensive security reforms to make living and investing in Nigeria safe and rewarding. Q5: Food is becoming unaffordable for many families. What will you do to bring down the prices of basic foods such as rice, beans and garri? Answer: My plan targets immediate yield expansion for local food staples by eliminating import duties on farm inputs, replenishing national strategic grain reserves to buffer prices during shortages, and lowering transport costs by subsidizing local fuel refining inputs.

Atiku has more important people to engage directly: the mother struggling to feed her children; the civil servant whose salary disappears into transportation; the farmer paying more to move produce to market; the student being pushed into debt simply to remain in school; and millions of Nigerians whose daily reality bears no resemblance to the prosperity advertised in your tweets. And that is where the contradiction in your statement becomes impossible to ignore. You condemn Atiku’s proposal to reduce the cost of energy as a return to the past, yet in the same breath promise that, “in the next few weeks,” your government will provide cheaper transportation, increase food production and introduce relief for vulnerable Nigerians. Bola, why now? For more than three years, Nigerians have endured punishing transport fares, soaring food prices, crippling energy costs and wages that buy less every month. Families have skipped meals, postponed medical treatment, withdrawn children from schools and abandoned basic plans simply to survive. Throughout that period, your government repeatedly told Nigerians that their suffering was the unavoidable price of reform. Now, suddenly, cheaper transportation has become urgent.

2. Fix logistics and transport to lower the cost of goods. We will reduce the cost of moving people and goods across Nigeria by improving key transport systems and removing bottlenecks. ● Shift heavy cargo from roads to rail and waterways, reducing congestion and road damage ● Build rail links connecting ports, industrial zones, and agricultural hubs ● Develop logistics hubs and depots outside major cities to ease urban congestion ● Improve rural roads to connect farmers to markets 3. Reform transport infrastructure through private sector participation. Government will shift from being the primary operator to an enabler and regulator. 30

● Create clear and stable regulatory frameworks to attract long-term investment ● Partner with capable private firms to operate rail, ports, airports, and waterways ● Encourage indigenous participation in shipping, logistics, and transport services 4. Build a more practical and accessible transportation system. We will prioritize efficiency over prestige projects in the transportation sector ● Partner with states to develop existing transportation infrastructure ● Strengthen regional transportation connectivity within West Africa The ADC will: 1. Promote exports as a driver of economic growth and job creation. We will support Nigerian businesses to compete and win in regional and global markets, with a strong focus on value-added exports and intra-African trade. 2. Provide targeted incentives to support exporters. We will introduce support mechanisms to reduce the cost of exporting and encourage Nigerian businesses to expand into regional and international markets. ● Provide export subsidies and incentives for export ● Support standardization, logistics, warehousing, and port efficiency to reduce export bottlenecks and costs ● Offer financing and credit support for small and medium-scale exporters ● Prioritize support for value-added goods rather than raw exports

● Unlock climate and green finance by building structured funding pipelines that attract green bonds, carbon market investments, and development partner financing, while improving Nigeria's capacity to absorb and effectively deploy climate funds. ● Boost agricultural productivity and food supply by scaling climate-smart agriculture. 1.6. AGRICULTURE The ADC will: 1. Make food security a national security priority, recognizing that a nation that cannot feed itself is a nation at risk. ● We will elevate food security to the National Security Council agenda ● We will align federal, state, and local government strategies under a unified national framework ● We will establish strategic reserves and emergency systems by building and maintaining national and regional food reserves, developing rapid response mechanisms for food shocks and price volatility, and coordinating humanitarian and social protection responses ● We will strengthen the linkages between farmers, processors, and markets; improve rural-urban logistics and transport infrastructure; and support agro-processing zones and local value addition ● We will increase Nigeria's agricultural mechanization to significantly improve productivity

● Support farmers through targeted investment in inputs, mechanization, extension services, and market access - matching the right policy tools to the needs of different categories of farmers ● Put into use the abandoned water dams across federal, state, and local levels to enable year-round farming for smallholder farmers ● Develop the entire agricultural value chain to enhance productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, and invest in aggregation centres, warehouses, and cold chain systems 3. Stabilize food prices and protect Nigerians from food inflation. We will take targeted and coordinated action to reduce food price volatility, protect households from sudden spikes, and ensure stable and affordable food supply across the country. ● Build and maintain a transparent strategic grain reserves release system to stabilize supply and release food into the market during shortages ● Strengthen market monitoring systems to track food prices in real time and enable early government response ● Coordinate with states and the private sector to ensure efficient distribution of food during supply shocks
