What will you do to lower food and transport costs, and will you fund South-South border security and resettlement?
To bring down what you pay for food and transport, my plan works on both sides of the problem. On transport, I will shift heavy cargo from roads to rail and waterways to cut congestion and road damage, build rail links connecting ports, industrial zones and agricultural hubs, and improve rural roads so farmers can reach markets more easily. On food, I will build and maintain a transparent strategic grain reserve that releases supply into the market during shortages, and strengthen market monitoring to track prices in real time so government can respond early. I also intend to invest in aggregation centres, warehouses and cold chain systems to cut post-harvest losses that drive up what you pay.
On a dedicated South-South border security and resettlement fund, I have not set out a fund specific to that region. What I have committed to is comprehensive security reform as part of making living and investing in Nigeria safe, and that applies to every part of the country, including the border communities and the Ogoja, Ikom and Obudu axis.
