Honours
In 1982, at the unusually young age of 36, Atiku was appointed to the enviable position of Turaki Adamawa, a position of honour, and a position of high responsibility. Since then accolades have been bestowed on him from various monarchs across the six geo-political zones of the country. He holds the following titles:
• Waziri of Adamawa (Adamawa Emirate)
• Zege Mule U Tiv (Tiv Nation, Benue State), "Great Shelter of the Tiv Nation", conferred on 27 May 2001
• Sardauna of Ganye (Adamawa State)
• Maiyedero of Lagos
• Ekwueme of Anambra
• Atayese of Ijeshaland
• Zanna Zantaelma of Borno
• Zanna Kawaskima of Yobe
• Shettima of Biu (Borno State)
• Suka of Ogoniland
• Unuamani of Adamawa
• Baagbile of Oke Ona Egba, Egbaland
• Omekaojuora of Igbuzo
• Otun Balogun of Mopaland
• Nwanne Di na Mba of Ngor-Okpala (Imo State)
• Enyioha Ndigbo
In June 2017, he was elevated Waziri Adamawa, second in command only to the Lamido of Adamawa; the Waziri is one of the highest offices of the Adamawa Emirate and a senior kingmaker. On becoming Waziri he relinquished the title of Turaki Adamawa, which passed to his son, Aliyu.
Rotary International and the National Peace Corps Association of the United States have recognised the former Vice President for matching his passion with his purse. In 2011, the National Peace Corps Association made him the first recipient of its Harris Wofford Global Citizen Award, for his contribution to democracy and to higher education in Africa. "No private business man in Africa has worked harder for democracy or contributed more to higher education than Atiku Abubakar," his citation read. He is a Foundation Fellow of St Antony's College, University of Oxford (Source: St Antony's College, https://www.sant.ox.ac.uk/people/dr-atiku-abubakar/). Innalillahi Wa'inna Ilaihir Raji'un.
I am saddened by the passing of Hajia Aya Dada Yar’Adua, mother of my late mentor, Tafida Shehu Yar’Adua, late President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, among others. In the absence of my beloved mother, I adopted Hajiya Dada as a mother. Indeed, she was a mother of multitudes, as her home was always a place of refuge where she welcomed everyone with love. She will be sorely missed. On behalf of the Atiku Abubakar family and team, I express my profound condolences to the Yar’Adua family, friends and associates over the loss of this gem of inestimable value. My condolences also go to the government and people of Katsina State. May her sins be forgiven and that she be granted Aljannah Firdausi. Ameen. -AA

It is my fervent prayer that 2025 will usher in a fresh dawn, sweeping away the years of national hardships that have hindered our country’s growth. I particularly pray for a revitalization of our national economy so that we may breathe freely once more, liberated from the suffocating grip of economic hardship.
As we celebrate the divine favor that allows us to witness this New Year, let us not forget our fellow Nigerians who were not so fortunate—those whose lives were claimed by the relentless storms of daily hardships. Their struggles remind us of the urgent work that lies ahead.
With hope in my heart and faith in our collective strength, I wish you all a prosperous New Year filled with boundless blessings and success in all our endeavors. Together, let us build a safer, stronger, and more unified nation. -AA

Earlier today, I led a delegation to condole with the family, the people, and the government of Kano over the loss of Alhaji Aminu Dantata.
Shortly after visiting the Dantata family, I proceeded to the Government House Kano and was received by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
I expressed sadness over the loss of Alhaji Aminu Danatata. I reminded that as a renowned global entrepreneur, Dantata's demise is not a loss only to the family and the people of Kano, but Nigeria and the world at large.
I prayed Allah to grant the deceased Aljannah Firdaus and give the family, the government and people of Kano the fortitude to bear the loss.
Governor Abba Kabir expressed happiness at my visit, while using the occasion to thank me for sending a delegation to Saudi Arabia to attend the funeral prayers and burial of the legendary businessman.
He reiterated the huge contributions of late Aminu Dantata to the development and growth of the economy of Kano in particular, especially in education and healthcare, saying the loss has left a vacuum, difficult to fill. -AA

Party Manifesto 2027-2031 2026-10-05 ›
The ADC will:
1. Prioritize preventive healthcare. Establish a National Health Education and Prevention Programme (NHEPP) to promote healthier lifestyles, reduce the burden of preventable diseases, and lower long-term healthcare costs.
Details:
● Launch nationwide public health campaigns on nutrition, hygiene, vaccination, and lifestyle-related diseases ● Integrate preventive health education into schools and community programmes ● Expand routine screening and early detection services across primary healthcare centres ● Partner with communities and local governments to promote grassroots health awareness and behaviour change
2. Establish a National Health Security and Protection Programme under the Social Protection Act. The programme will combine health insurance with personal medical savings, ensuring unused savings roll over and grow over time, encouraging preventive care and long-term planning. Government will provide direct contributions or subsidies for vulnerable citizens, ensuring equitable access.

Wa alaikumu salaam, and welcome.
I'm glad to have you here. This platform, Ask AA, is one I have built as a public information portal, a place for Nigerians to engage with me directly on government policies and initiatives. It will grow into a Presidential Promise Tracker, where you can monitor the promises I make, follow how they are being implemented, and see exactly how public funds are being spent. That is how we build transparency and accountability at every level of government, not by asking you to take my word for it, but by laying the record open for you to examine yourself.
I see you, and young Nigerians like you, not as a restless population to be managed or mobilised only at election time, but as the greatest national asset this country has ever produced. The innovators, the farmers, the creators, the engineers, the doctors, the teachers, the entrepreneurs, the artisans, you are the ones proving every day what the Nigerian spirit can do.
