Why can't Nigeria build a strong, ideology-based opposition to improve accountability like America's two-party system?
On opposition and accountability, I have called on political leaders across every party line to forge a strong coalition, one that gives you a credible opposition capable of steering our nation toward a promising future. I urged the Inter-Party Advisory Council to rally opposition parties together to build a stronger front, and I have called on the National Assembly to prioritise constitutional and electoral reforms, including electronic voting, so that elections are transparent and your mandate is protected.
I believe democracy, despite its flaws, is the best form of government, and I am committed to working with others to preserve it in Nigeria. I do not believe a president should be able to take over a ruling party and constrict opposition from within, leaving no room for internal democracy. I believe in competitive politics, not yes-man politics, and that is a principle I hold to regardless of which party I serve in.
