On security in the north, I have said plainly that the occupation of Nigerian communities across parts of the North East, North West and North Central by bandits and terrorists, who impose levies on citizens and disrupt farming, is unacceptable. I believe that with the right political leadership, our security forces have the capacity to take on this insecurity. My plan is clear: end insecurity as part of restoring peace and economic prosperity to the country.
On the cost of living, my approach is to reduce the cost of things at the source rather than let prices explode and then hand out palliatives. I will work to reduce the cost of energy so your salary buys more, reduce transport costs so less of your wage disappears just getting to work, and reduce the cost of moving food so your family spends less in the market. Under my Economic Recovery Plan, support for Nigerian crude used in domestic refining would be capped, transparently budgeted and independently audited, with a clear obligation that the benefit reaches you at the pump, not just the refinery or marketer. My aim is to make the naira in your pocket worth more and make daily living affordable again.
On helping businesses recover, I will introduce tax reductions or credits for small businesses based on the number of people they hire and retain, temporary tax relief for startups and small businesses in their early years, and payroll tax incentives for businesses that grow their workforce. I will also bring informal businesses into the formal economy by making it beneficial, not burdensome, through tax amnesty or grace periods for those who register, linking tax compliance to access to government support and financing, and ensuring newly formalised businesses are not immediately overburdened. Alongside this, I am committed to a financing programme for start-ups and entrepreneurs, to move young Nigerians from dependence to enterprise and from unemployment to productivity.
On fuel subsidy, my commitment is firm, but it is not a return to the old import subsidy model. I am proposing a production subsidy model: support for crude refined here in Nigeria, so our refineries can produce fuel more cheaply and you pay less at the pump. It would be structured to support domestic refining, eliminate waste, and ensure that every naira of support translates into a measurable, lower price for you, not an open-ended subsidy on fuel brought in from abroad. I call this not a political slogan but a solemn covenant with you.
On governance, my plan is clear: end insecurity, bring down the cost of living, create opportunities for every Nigerian, and uphold the rule of law. I bring to this the experience of leading reforms that returned loss-making government companies to private hands, years of service in the Customs Service, and the experience of building businesses that employ thousands of Nigerians today.
